Theater Seating, Custom to Catalog

The seat is the one part of a theater you are touching the whole film. We build the room around two lines: Fortress for fully custom cinema seating, and Texas Theater Seating for ready models that still get the important things right.

The seat is the one part of a theater you are touching the whole film. We build the room around it.

The screen gets the attention and the speakers get the budget, but the seat is the one part of a home theater you are in contact with from the first frame to the credits. Get it wrong and a reference room is still uncomfortable; get it right and nobody thinks about the chair again, which is the point. We treat seating as part of the system, not an afterthought bought at the end, and we build most of our theaters around one of two lines: Fortress, for fully custom cinema seating, and Texas Theater Seating, for well-made ready models at a set price.

The Last ComponentThe Part You Actually Touch

A theater is a chain of components, and the seat is the last link and the only one your body is against for two hours. It carries the sound through the floor, sets how upright or reclined you watch, and decides whether the back row can see over the front. A great picture and serious sound do not survive a chair that is too low, too shallow, or too firm. We scope seating the same way we scope the screen and the speakers, to the room and to the people who will use it, because comfort is the whole reason the room exists.

Two LinesCustom or Ready

Most clients land in one of two places, so we carry two lines that cover both. Fortress builds fully custom cinema seating, made to order with a deep catalog of models and hundreds of ways to configure each one: the answer when the room, the look, or the comfort has to be exact. Texas Theater Seating makes a short range of ready models at a set price, with power recline and the cinema features most people want. One is a bespoke commission; the other is a confident, well-made choice you can place quickly. Both are chairs we install and wire in, not furniture dropped off at the curb.

FortressBuilt to Order

Fortress, built to the room: a front row joined by pocket arms so it reads as one continuous sofa, raised on a riser so the back row sees cleanly over it.

Fortress has been building seating for over seven decades and became the name integrators call when an off-the-shelf chair is not the answer. The range runs past thirty models, Bijou, Madison, Matinee, West End, Bel Aire and more, each offered with hundreds of configurations, so the chair is specified to the room rather than the room compromised to the chair. Seats are made to order in the company’s own factory, in the leather, dimensions, and layout a project calls for. It is the line we reach for when a client wants the seating to be exactly right, down to the stitch, and is willing to wait for it.

The AccessoriesDetails That Earn Their Place

What makes Fortress custom is the list of things you can build into each seat. Motion goes well past a recliner: powered lumbar, an adjustable headrest, seat-height and lift mechanisms, even heat and massage. Arms can hold concealed or tilt-out cup holders, lighted and cooling, in stainless or brass; stow a tray table; or hide storage drawers and a docking mount for a touch screen. Dress elements, contrast stitching, diamond tufting, nail heads, piping, custom wood feet, tune the look to the room. Pocket arms close the gap between chairs so a row reads as one continuous sofa. Each option is chosen for a reason, not piled on.

Smart ChairSeating Wired Into the System

Fortress seats can carry Smart Chair Technology, which is where our work and the furniture meet. The chairs integrate with the home’s control and automation system, with occupancy sensors and preset seating positions, so a seat can recline to a saved position, raise its headrest, and bring up its own reading light on a single command. We program those presets into the same control system that dims the lights and wakes the screen, so the row settles into movie mode with the rest of the room. It is a small touch that makes a serious theater feel like it was built as one piece, because it was.

Texas Theater SeatingReady, and Done Right

Not every room needs a bespoke commission, and Texas Theater Seating is the line we reach for when a client wants the cinema experience without the custom timeline. Its models are named for Texas towns, the San Marcos, the Austin Premier, the Houston, and priced per seat, roughly between three and five thousand dollars. Each is wrapped in top-grain leather, rides a wall-hugger power recline with a powered headrest, and comes with the features people actually ask for: LED-lit cup holders, under-seat lighting, and, on the Houston, a stowable tray table, hidden arm storage, and a USB charger. It is a confident, finished chair at a set price.

Rows and RisersFitting the Room

A theater seat is only right if it fits the room it sits in. We plan the layout around sightlines and the wall-hugger clearance each recliner needs, mix singles and loveseats so a row suits the family, and build risers for a second or third row so every seat sees the screen cleanly. Spacing, aisle width, and the distance to the screen are measured, not guessed. Whether the chairs are custom Fortress or ready Texas Theater Seating, the goal is the same: a room where every seat is a good seat and nobody is craning around the head in front of them.

The InstallWe Build It In

Seating is the finishing touch, but we treat it as part of the system. We rough in power for the recliners and low-voltage for the lighting during construction, build and carpet the risers, place and level the chairs, and wire the LED and any Smart Chair features to the control system. Then we program the lighting and seat presets so the row behaves with the room. Done this way there are no cords across the floor and no transformer bricks in view, just chairs that look built in, because they were. It is the difference between furniture in a room and a finished theater.

The FitWho Each One Is For

Go custom with Fortress when the room, the look, or the comfort has to be exact: an unusual layout, a specific leather, a row that has to read as one sofa, or a client who wants the chair tailored to them. Choose Texas Theater Seating when you want a good cinema chair, quickly and at a known price, with the lighting and recline already handled. Either way, the seat is where a theater finally becomes a place you want to spend an evening. We will help you choose the line, fit it to the room, and build it in so it feels like part of the house.
