Ceiling height, hitting-zone depth and screen distance checked against the actual room before anything is promised. Most of the disappointment in this category is dimensional.

One purpose, done properly

A simulator bay is a purpose-built room. We do not sell it as a theater that also plays golf, because a room asked to do both ends up mediocre at each.

The room decides this before the equipment does

Ceiling height is the constraint that ends most projects, and it needs about ten feet for a full swing — more if the player is tall or swings upright. Then depth for the hitting zone and run-up behind the screen, and width for a left and a right-hander. We measure the actual room and tell you what it will support before anything is promised, because most disappointment in this category is dimensional rather than technical.

Launch monitors read the ball differently

Camera-based units read the ball and club directly and want space behind the ball. Radar units track flight and want space in front. Which suits you depends on the room you have and whether you care more about club data or ball flight. That is a conversation about your bay, not about which brand is best.

The screen takes a beating and the projector should not

An impact screen is a consumable that has to survive being hit at speed several thousand times while still holding an image. Tension, material and distance all matter. The projector goes where it will never be struck and still throw a full image, which usually means short-throw and a ceiling mount well behind the hitting zone.

Why we do not build these as media rooms

It gets asked, and the honest answer is no. An impact screen is woven and tensioned to absorb a ball, which means it scatters light and shows its texture on a film. The projector has to sit high and well back to clear the swing, which is the wrong geometry for cinema. A camera-based launch monitor wants some ambient light; a theater wants none. And you stand in a simulator, so the seating a theater needs sits exactly where the hitting zone has to be. Build the bay as a bay. If you want cinema too, it should be a different room, and we will happily do both.

Common questions

What ceiling height do we need?

About ten feet as a working minimum, and more for a tall player. Under nine, we will tell you it is not going to work rather than sell you something you cannot swing in.

How much room does a bay take?

Plan on roughly sixteen feet deep by fifteen wide as a comfortable target. It can be done tighter, with compromises we will name.

Are the numbers accurate?

Good units are accurate enough to practice against and to improve on. Accuracy varies by technology and by how well the unit is calibrated to the bay, which is part of the install.

Can it go in a garage?

Frequently, and garages often have the height. Insulation, climate and floor leveling are the things to solve, plus lighting that does not confuse the cameras.

Can the bay double as a home theater?

We do not recommend it and we do not build it that way. The screen, the projector geometry and the lighting all pull in opposite directions, and the seating would have to sit in the hitting zone. Both rooms are better built as themselves.
